Dec. 7th, 2019... predicted high temp of 44 degrees, with clearing skies. Well, the skies didn't clear enough to call them "clearing" until after we were done, but the air temp was fine.
Four valiant souls set out to finish clearing the section of the Des Plaines River between our tool shed and Gowe Park., after we ran out of time on the previous attempt, and had to leave the job half done. We didn't find anything remarkable today, really... no tires, no bathtubs, no coconuts... just the usual beverage bottles, pieces of styrofoam, etc. There's evidence of a lot of beaver activity in this section, and one muskrat was sighted, but no other wildlife was seen.
With the water level quite high for this time of year, we were able to paddle into the flood plains, and collected most of the trash we found there. Overall, we had two large trash bags full of trash, and one large plastic container with an unknown liquid in it. We didn't open it...
It was a good day!
