Details: This is a short introduction to paddling following the syllabus of the American Canoe Association and taught by ACA-accredited instructors. This class is on flat water and will prepare you for the next instructional step, Moving Water 1. Whether you are a beginning canoe paddler or a veteran of many years, this methodical review of equipment, safety issues, and paddling techniques will help you move through the water and control your boat more efficiently. The first part of the class will be spent demonstrating, practicing, assessing your skills, and charting an individual plan for progress. A period of individual coaching and practice will follow until sundown. Note that rain or even a gentle wind will make it necessary to move the class a week later, June 17. Watch this notice and be sure that your phone or email address is listed.
The cost is $20 for PSC members, $40 for non-PSC members
You will need your own boat, paddle, a properly-fitted PFD (this will be tested on site), at least a liter of water, and snacks to get you through the three-hour session. A complete change of clothes and personal items can remain in your car.
