Prairie State Canoeists
A Northeast Illinois Canoe and Kayak Club
Date(s): June 26, 2017 Leader: John Chase and Dave Watts Location: Whalon Lake, Bolingbrook/Naperville, IL Skill Level: Advanced Beginner Category: Instruction Details: Join us for a two-hour skill-builder session where we will practice various deep-water kayak and canoe rescue techniques.
We will review assisted and self rescue techniques and towing techniques. This program is perfect for paddlers who have previously performed rescues and are looking to refine their skills. These techniques are used when in deep water where shore access is not immediately available. We will not be practicing river rescue technique (i.e. throw bag use, entrapment, pinned boat, etc.)
Kayaks must have sealed bulkheads at both the bow and stern ends or fully inflated and secured float bags. Kayaks without adequate flotation will not be permitted to participate.
Canoe flotation is not required but would be very helpful.
Participants must wear a properly fitted PFD and bring your own boat and all equipment you normally bring when paddling. All kayak participants will be asked to perform a wet exit prior to launching.
ACA membership is required for this event. If you are already a member of the ACA you can enter your membership number during registration. If you are not yet a member, you must purchase a $5 one-day membership.
Registration will close on June 20, 2017.
