Details:  Join us for a Skill Building Day, this is a special two for one Skill Building Class

The morning skill-builder session will be 'Camping from your Canoe or Kayak', where we will review practical tips & tricks for packing for a camping trip from your boat as well as 'packing your boat'. We also review on how to have a balanced & trim boat and the various scenarios that one may encounter. And many other's. We will wrap up the morning with a review from 'Leave No Trace' River Ethics. Also, to end this session, there will be a brief discussion on possible plans for a fall river camping trip to 'Practice' what you have leaned.

The afternoon skill-builder session will be 'Flat Water Rescue', where we will practice various deep-water kayak and canoe rescue techniques.

We will review assisted and self rescue techniques and towing techniques. This program is perfect for paddlers who have previously performed rescues and are looking to refine their skills. These techniques are used when in deep water where shore access is not immediately available. We will not be practicing river rescue technique (i.e. throw bag use, entrapment, pinned boat, etc.)

Come out for both the morning & afternoon Skill Building Sessions or just one, please let us know so we can plan accordingly.

Kayaks must have sealed bulkheads at both the bow and stern ends or fully inflated and secured float bags. Kayaks without adequate flotation will not be permitted to participate.

Canoe flotation is not required but would be very helpful.

Participants must wear a properly fitted PFD and bring your own boat and all equipment you normally bring when paddling. All kayak participants will be asked to perform a wet exit prior to launching.

ACA membership is required for this event. If you are already a member of the ACA you can enter your membership number during registration. If you are not yet a member, you must purchase a $5 one-day membership.

We are exploring several location options for this program and will announce the location to registered participants a couple days prior to the class. Expect a west suburban location.

Registration will close on July 21, 2018.
